CHAPTER 11 INTERRUPT CONTROLLER
11.1 Overview of the Interrupt Controller
The interrupt controller controls interrupt acceptance and arbitration processing.
■ Hardware Configuration of the Interrupt Controller
The interrupt controller consists of the following components:
•
Interrupt control registers (ICR) register
•
Interrupt priority decision circuit
•
Interrupt level and interrupt number (vector) generator
•
HOLD request cancellation request generator
■ Major Functions of the Interrupt Controller
The interrupt controller has the following major functions:
•
Detecting NMI requests and interrupt requests
•
Deciding priority (using a level or number)
•
Passing to the CPU an interrupt level based on the decision result to provide information
about the interrupt source
•
Passing to the CPU an interrupt number based on the decision result to provide information
about the interrupt source
•
Instruction for return from stop mode due to the occurrence of an interrupt with an NMI/
interrupt level other than 11111
•
Generating a HOLD request cancellation request for the bus master
