Formatting UNIX PC Floppy Disks
Before you can use a new floppy disk with the UNIX PC,
you must format it.
Formatting a floppy disk means
preparing i t to accept the information you want to
store on it.
Once formatted for the UNIX PC, the
floppy disk is usable for its lifetime without
reformatting.
Because formatting a floppy disk erases
whatever is contained on it, be careful not to format
floppy disks that contain information you want to keep.
The following procedure shows you how to format a
floppy disk to be used with the UNIX PC.
If you want
to format a floppy disk to be used on an MS-DOS system,
see "Formatting MS-DOS Floppy Disks" in this chapter.
