Selecting Objects and Entering Commands
Example
The following example shows you how to type a command
to affect an object displayed in the active window.
Suppose you have a file named myfile in the active
window..
To delete myfile,
follow these steps:
1
Press <Cmd>.

Type
delete
You see each character appear on the command
line at the bottom of the screen.

Press the space bar to leave a space.

Type
myfile
5
Press <Return> or <Enter>.
The command line displays delete myfile before the file
is deleted, and the feedback myfile was moved to
Wastebasket appears on the message line.
Using Pathnames
The previous example shows how to type a command when
the object is contained in the active window.
You can
also type commands to take effect on objects contained
in folders that are suspended or closed.
This method
is particularly useful when you want to open a file
without having to open several folders to get to it.
To type a command for an object that is not contained
in the active window, you type the pathname to the
object.
