3.1.2 Ventilation requirements

Ventilation requirements for Océ CS9160 using Bio-lactite, Low solvent Ultra or Eco Solvent inks
The Océ CS9160 can make use of three types of ink:
IJC940 Océ Bio-Lactite Ink
IJC935 Océ LS Ultra Ink
Océ IJC930 Eco Solvent ink
All three inks contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The concentration of VOCs in the print room
during operation of the Océ CS9160 depends on multiple factors: room volume, ventilation rate, print speed,
number of prints, print mode, number of printers in the room, heater settings, kind of media, etc.
In order to avoid any health risk related to VOCs and to ensure a safe work environment, Océ advises to use
these inks only in a well ventilated area. The user needs to take all necessary precautions in accordance
with all applicable local, state and federal regulations.
For each ink a specific recommendation is prepared for use in an Océ 9160 (see table 1).

(*) Use an Air Purification System (APS) with an active carbon filter (Filter 05).
Notes
The recommended room ventilation must be applied in case the printer is used at nominal
printing speed (15 m
case of more intensive use of the printer, the ventilated volume must be increased accordingly.
The required hourly ventilated volume is independent of the room volume. In case the Océ
CS9160 is placed in a larger room, the ventilation rate can be lowered accordingly, as long as
the hourly ventilated volume is equal to or larger than indicated in table 1.
The (hourly) ventilated volume is required for each Océ CS9160 that is installed in the room. In
case multiple machines are installed, either the room volume or the room ventilation has to be
increased accordingly
The total ventilated volume can be either a general room ventilation or a combination of a lower
general room ventilation with additional extra local exhaust ventilation.
The concentration of VOCs will be higher in the vicinity of the equipment. Part of the VOCs will
be originating from the printed matter. To ensure no nuisance will occur, Océ advises to always
use additional local exhaust ventilation directly above the heated media guide platen, even
when an APS is used.
