c. Hammer Bank Assembly
(b) Rotate hammer bank (6) to operating position.
(c) Replace antirotation arm (5). Install two screws (3). Torque to 12 in–lbs.
(d) If the machine has cast shaft support blocks and sleeve bearings, torque the bearing clamp
screws 3–5 in–lbs while shuttling. (The warning label on the shuttle reminds you of this
procedure and gives the required torque values.) Linear bearings require no adjustment.
P600 Only
Do not release hammer bank cover unless you are sure of alignment with
roll pins. Damage to hammer tips is possible.
(a) Install hammer bank cover assembly (item 8, Figure 3–3) on the hammer bank (6). Make
sure holes in cover (8) go over roll pins (9) on the hammer bank.
(b) Rotate hammer bank assembly (6) to operating position.
(c) Place antirotation arm (5) in position.
(d) Install two screws (3) and washers (4). Torque to 12 in–lbs.
(e) Connect four connectors (14). Make sure coil wires do not rub against top of frame. In-
spect all connectors for unseated pins. Install comb bracket (2). Tighten two screws (1).
(f) Install power cord (1, Figure 3–2) and paper. Close platen. Set POWER to ON.
(g) Start printer shuttling by pressing ON LINE.
Torquing bearing clamp bolts to an incorrect value or while shuttle is idle
may damage bearings.
(h) With shuttle running, torque bearing block screws (13, Figure 3–3) to 36 in–lbs for ma-
chined bearing blocks or 8–10 in–lbs for diecast bearing blocks. Recycle ON LINE
switch as necessary to continue shuttle action.
(i)
Set POWER to OFF.
(j)
If necessary, check platen to hammer tip gap and adjust per paragraph 5–10.
9. Install ribbon drive assembly. (See Figure 3–2.)
(a) Disengage ribbon drive assembly (8) from vertical cover support pin (10) and shoulder
screw (11).
(b) Put ribbon drive assembly (8) in position and press onto retaining clips (9).
(c) Install two socket head screws (7).
(d) Install ribbon spools (5) on ribbon hubs (6). Make sure the ribbon tracks properly.
10. Close front cover (2).
