5–28. Flywheel Assembly (Figure 5–27)
a. Removal
1.
Remove counterweight assembly per paragraph 5–27a.
Do not adjust MPU clamp screw – it affects MPU gap.
2.
Back out screw (1) about .25 inch.
3.
Only if necessary to avoid damage to the MPU, move MPU arm (2) away from flywheel (3).
4.
Remove two screws (5) and split lockwashers (6).
5.
Disengage flywheel assembly (3) from shuttle belt (7) and lift out of housing (8).
b. Installation
1.
Slip flywheel assembly (3) into shuttle belt (7) and position in housing (8) per steps 2 and 3 be-
low.
NOTE: Flywheel is easier to position if long axis of cam is vertical.
2.
Slide flywheel assembly (3) back until rear of axle contacts roll pin (9).
3.
Rotate shaft of flywheel assembly (3) until flats at ends of shaft are at 45 degrees relative to verti-
cal. (Disregard for round shafts.) Position cam (10) with lobes at top and bottom. Make sure belt
(7) engages grooves in pulley (11) on flywheel (3).
4.
Install two screws (5) and split lockwashers (6).
5.
Rotate flywheel (3) a few times to properly align belt (7).
Belt should be at least 3/16 inch from timing disk; otherwise, damage to
timing disk can occur.
6.
Partially install counterweight assembly per paragraph 5–27b, steps 1 through 6.
7.
Move MPU arm (2) toward flywheel (3) until it reaches normal operating position. Tighten screw
(1) finger tight.
Do not run flywheel prior to MPU gap adjustment. Damage to printer is
possible.
8.
Adjust MPU gap per paragraph 5–11. Check shuttle belt tension per paragraph 5–14a. Adjust if
necessary per paragraph 5–14b.
9.
Check cam wick (12). Verify it is in contact with cam and properly lubricated. If lubrication is
required, refer to paragraph 3–5.
