5–29. Cam Wick (Figure 5–28)
a. Removal
1.
Remove flywheel assembly per paragraph 5–28a.
2.
Remove screw (1) and clip (2).
3.
Remove wick (3) and inspect. Discard if necessary.
b. Installation
1.
Using a heavy cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol, remove all metal shavings from flywheel
assembly (4) and housing (5).
2.
Position wick (3) as shown in the figure. Verify that leaf spring (6) keeps flap in contact with cam
through 360 degrees of rotation.
3.
Install screw (1) and clip (2). Install flywheel assembly per paragraph 5–28b.
5–30. Magnetic Pickup (Figure 5–29)
Do not operate printer if MPU can be rotated. Damage to timing disk will
occur if MPU contacts timing disk.
a. Removal
1.
Gain access to MPU by performing procedures of paragraph 5–27a, 1 through 4.
2.
Loosen two fasteners (1) and open rear door (2).
3.
Working through rear door, disconnect MPU leads (3) from terminal strip (4) by removing two
screws (5) and terminal lugs (6).
4.
Loosen clamp screw (7). Unscrew MPU (8) from MPU arm (9) and remove from printer (10).
b. Installation
1.
Screw MPU (8) into MPU arm (9) until it is about half a turn from timing disk (11).
2.
Connect MPU leads (3) by installing two screws (5) and terminal lugs (6) to terminal strip (4).
White wire goes to terminal 1 and black to terminal 2.
3.
Perform MPU gap and phasing adjustments per paragraphs 5–11 and 5–12.
4.
Close rear door (2). Tighten fasteners (1).
