5–36. Tractor (Figure 5–35)
a. Removal
1. Remove power cord (1). Open cover (2).
2. Remove paper from printer.
3. Unlock right tractor (3) and left tractor (4).
4. Loosen setscrew (5).
5. Remove bushing (6) from spline shaft (7).
6. Remove screw (8) and washer (9).
7. Unscrew support shaft (10) until it clears knob (11).
8. To remove right tractor:
(a) Slide spline shaft (7) to right and slip belt (12) off feed pulley (13).
(b) Completely remove spline shaft (7).
(c) Lift out support shaft (10) and both tractors (3 and 4).
(d) Slide right tractor (3) to right and off support shaft (10).
9. To remove left tractor:
(a) Remove paper motion sensor per paragraph 5–37a.
(b) Slide spline shaft (7) to right until it clears tractor (4). Slip paper feed belt (12) off motor
pulley (13) if necessary.
(c) Remove screw (14).
(d) Separate cable clamp (15) from tractor (4).
(e) Lift out tractor (4).
b. Installation
NOTE: Steel tractors are aligned by matching the positions of each of the red
index marks. Plastic tractors must be aligned by matching the four indentations
that face each other on the upper tractor spline pulleys.
1. To install left tractor:
(a) Place tractor (4) in printer.
(b) Position cable clamp (15) on tractor (4).
(c) Install screw (14).
(d) Slide spline shaft (7) into tractor (4). Make sure nubs on both tractor belts are in the same
location relative to spline shaft.
(e) Install paper motion sensor per paragraph 5–37.
