5–26. Hammer Coil (Figure 5–25)
a. Removal, P600
1.
Place ribbon drive in service position per paragraph 3–4c, step 4.
2.
Loosen two comb bracket screws (1). Raise comb bracket (2) free of screws (1).
3.
Remove hammer coil screw (3).
When manipulating coil and wiring, be careful not to damage other coils or
stress hammers.
4.
Gently pull two coil leads (5) from comb (6).
5.
Remove four screws (7) and washers (4) from wire clamp (8) holding coil leads (5).
6.
Disconnect appropriate coil connector (9).
7.
Carefully separate two coil leads (5) from connector (8) as follows:
Do not move connector releasing tabs any more than necessary to extract
and remove leads. Damage to connector will result.
(a) Using X–acto knife or other small tool, gently pry up releasing tab (10).
(b) Withdraw coil lead (5) and its terminal (11).
8.
Separate coil (12) from hammer bank (13).
b. Installation, P600
NOTE: Coils are not interchangeable between models. Replace with the same
type found in the printer.
1.
Position coil (12) in hammer bank (13).
2.
Install screw (3) but do not tighten.
3.
Align coil (12) relative to adjacent coils and spring (14).
Torque coil screw very carefully. Even slight over–tightening will damage
coils.
4.
Torque screw (3) to just past the point where the screw touches the frame and is not loose.
5.
Insert two coil leads (5) into connector (9). Make sure sense of color coding is identical with other
coils, and terminals (11) are locked in.
6.
Route coil leads (5) over comb bracket (2) and into slots in comb (6). Adjust path of leads so flex
loop matches that of other leads.
