5–26. Hammer Coil
b. Installation, P600
Make sure leads lie at least 3/16 inch from clamp screws before tightening
screws. Damage to leads, coils, or hammer drivers is possible.

Install wire clamp (8) and four screws (7) and washers (4).

Reconnect coil connector (9). Verify that no male pins are visible at either side of connector. Ob-
serve that all pins are properly seated.
9.
Slip comb bracket (2) behind screws (1). Tighten screws (1).
10. Return ribbon drive to operating position per paragraph 3–4c, steps 9 and 10.
c. Removal, P300
1.
Remove hammer spring per paragraph 5–25a.
NOTE: On older P300s, each hammer coil is integral with its mounting base.
The hammer coil is held in place on the pole pin with adhesive. Newer P300 coils
are not glued on and are easily removed. On newer P300 printers, skip steps 2
through 5 and simply pull the coil off.
Care must be taken when performing steps 2 thru 5 or damage to shuttle
will result.

Break off coil heat sink (1).
3.
Strip off top of coil bobbin (2) and wires (3).
4.
Split bobbin sleeve (4) and peel away from pole pin (5).
5.
Clean pole pin (5) thoroughly.
d. Installation, P300
NOTE: New coils are not glued into place. RTV sealant is used to keep the coil
secure and to permit easier removal.
1.
Place a tiny drop of RTV silicone sealant at the base of the pole pin (5). Press new hammer coil
assembly (7) down firmly so base is below pole pin surface. Be sure to align and seat contact pins
into hammer bank cable assembly (6).
2.
Install hammer spring per paragraph 5–25b.
