5–41. Power Supply PCBA (Figure 5–40)
a. Removal
High electrical potentials may be present at power supply even with power
disconnected. Removal of J10 on power supply WILL cause capacitor C1
to vent. Removal of J16 on power supply PCBA may cause capacitor C1 to
vent. DO NOT disconnect these connectors; severe injury possible. (See
Service Notes below.)
1.
Do steps 1 through 5 of paragraph 5–40a. On floor cabinet (XQ) models, do the XQ steps of para-
graph 5–18a.
2.
Disconnect connectors (1), connector (2) and terminals (3) from PCBA (4). Verify tags are pre-
sent and legible; relabel if necessary.
3.
Remove two screws (5) and terminal lug (6).
4.
Separate power supply PCBA (4) from power supply assembly (7).
b. Installation
1.
Place power supply PCBA (4) in power supply assembly (7).
2.
Install two screws (5) and terminal lug (6).
3.
Connect connectors (1), connector (2), and terminals (3) to PCBA (4) according to labels.
4.
Perform steps 2 through 5 of paragraph 5–40b. On floor cabinet (XQ) models, do the XQ steps of
paragraph 5–18b.
P–Series Power Supply Service Notes
Circuit Breaker Tripping
The circuit breaker on P600 power supply will trip when AC current draw is 12.5 amps for more
than 1/2 second, or when +36 VDC on the power supply PCBA goes above +40 VDC. The power
supply PCBA is usually the cause of circuit breaker tripping. Use a voltage meter to check +36
VDC regulation and DO NOT DISCONNECT CONNECTORS J16 OR J10. Do not disconnect
these connectors, even to troubleshoot the power supply.
AC voltage at the wall outlet should be 120 VAC with only the printer connected to this AC cir-
cuit. When the shuttle motor starts, it requires 25.5 amps at 120 VAC for 1/2 second. When AC
voltage is lower than 120 VAC at motor startup, and the wall outlet cannot supply 25.5 amps, the
circuit breaker will trip.
P–Series Power Supply Capacitor C–1: Important Information
The largest capacitor in the P–Series printer is the C1 capacitor on the power supply PCBA. This
capacitor must be replaced every five (5) years to ensure optimum printer operation. The
replacement capacitor must be Printronix part number 101372–005. This specifies a 78K mF, 75
VDC, capacitor.
