5–25. Hammer Spring (Figure 5–24)
a. Removal
1.
Place ribbon drive in service position per paragraph 3–4c, step 4.
2.
Place hammer bank assembly in service position per paragraph 3–4c, step 5.
3.
Clean hammer bank cover (1) with soft cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol.
4.
Remove hammer spring screw (2). Loosen adjacent screw (3).
5.
Slide hammer spring (4) forward past clamp plate (5) and remove.
b. Installation
Transport new hammer springs flat and unstressed. Handle carefully to
prevent damage to tips.
1.
Slide hammer spring (4) under clamp plate (5). Make sure surfaces that contact spring are clean
and free of burrs.
2.
Align hammer tips per paragraph 5–8.
3.
Torque hammer spring screw (2) to 12 in–lbs.
4.
Return hammer bank to operating position per paragraph 3–4c, step 8.
5.
Place ribbon drive in operating position per paragraph 3–4c, steps 9 and 10.
