5. Dislodge paper dust and ribbon lint with a soft brush. Vacuum up residue. Pay particular attention
to tractor (7), hammer bank (8), and base pan (9).
6. Wipe spline shaft (10) with soft cloth.
7. Using cloth dampened with alcohol, clean ribbon guides (11) at each side of cabinet.
8. Open door (12) of left tractor (7). Clean paper motion detector (13) with soft brush.
9. Clean ribbon path (14) with soft brush.
10. Inspect platen (15). If necessary, wipe with cloth moistened (not wet) with alcohol to remove ink
or dirt.
11. Vacuum up residue. Avoid using vacuum on ribbon path as damage can result.
c. Hammer Bank Assembly (Figure 3–2 and Figure 3–3)
1.
Remove power cord (1).
2.
Open front cover (2).
3.
Raise forms thickness adjustment lever (3) to open. Remove any paper present.
4.
Place ribbon drive assembly in service position.
(a) Squeeze locks (4) and remove ribbon spools (5) from ribbon hubs (6).
(b) Remove two socket head screws (7).
(c) Raise ribbon drive assembly (8) slightly and lift it off retaining clips (9).
(d) For pedestal models, mount ribbon drive assembly (8) on vertical cover support pin (10)
and shoulder screw (11). For XQ models, set ribbon drive assembly to the right of the
shuttle assembly.
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove any of the connectors.
5.
Place hammer bank assembly in service position. (See Figure 3–3.)
All machined P300 shaft support blocks have linear bearings which require
no adjustment, and the blocks must never be removed from the shuttle.
Newer P300 shuttles have blocks made from castings that are thinner and
lighter. These castings have either a linear bearing requiring no adjustment
or a sleeve bearing requiring the loosening and re–torqueing procedure in-
dicated on the warning label. (Both shuttle types are illustrated in
Figure 5–23.) P300 shuttles with sleeve bearings in the shaft support blocks
have a warning label on the shuttle face that reads "Loosen torque screw in
top of each bearing block before rotating shuttle to service position. Retor-
que to 3–5 in–lbs while shuttling." Follow the labelled instructions careful-
ly.
(a) If machine is a P300 with linear bearing blocks requiring no torque adjustment, go to step
5(b).
