3. Troubleshooting When Using the Facsimile Function
Problem
Edges of sheets are creased. The paper is damp.

Causes
recommended paper.
The paper is damp.
The exposure glass,
scanning glass, or ADF is
dirty.
Smudging can occur if a
printed side rubs against
things such as the corner of
the machine.
Image density is too high.
When using moist, rough, or
processed paper, areas of
print may not be fully
reproduced.
The image density has been
set too low.
The original of the
transmitted fax was printed
on paper that is too thin.
Solutions
Use paper that has been stored in the
recommended temperature and
humidity conditions. See "Paper
Storage", About This Machine.
Use recommended paper. See
"Recommended Paper Sizes and
Types", About This Machine.
Use paper that has been stored in the

Clean them. See "Cleaning the

When removing copies from the output
tray, do so carefully to avoid scuffing
the printed side. If you are making
many copies, remove them in small
batches.
Ask the sender to adjust the scan
density settings. For details about how

Use recommended paper. See

Ask the sender to increase the scanning
density. For details about how to

Ask the sender to reprint the original on
thicker paper, and then fax it again.
