Server Run Modes

EMS_FILEHOME

An EMS server running in a Server Failover setup will run in either Active
or Dormant mode.

Active

The Active server is the server that all EMS clients connect to. It runs all
the EMS operations and is the only EMS server that writes to the EMS
database and filesystem.

Dormant

The Dormant server is an EMS server which during its startup sequence
has detected an Active server and has opened a connection to it. EMS
clients cannot connect to the Dormant server. The Dormant server does
not write to the database but it does read from the database when
notified by the Active server to ensure its picture of the database is
up-to-date. In the event of a failure the Dormant server then becomes the
Active server.
lets you specify a 'base directory' for the EMS server to
EMS_FILEHOME
locate its files. This is how two servers share a common set of files and
directories and thus remove the need for file synchronization.
The
local_server.properties
installation contains this explanatory header:
###### EMS Files Location #######
##Specify a base directory from which the EMS server should
locate its files
#EMS_FILESHOME=\\\\149.112.120.120\\Program Files\\3Com\\EMS
# Specifying a local directory on a windows machine:
#EMS_FILEHOME=G:\\ems_file_home\\
The
property is used by the EMS server when locating
EMS_FILEHOME
the files and directories shared by the two servers:
<EMS_FILEHOME>/backups
<EMS_FILEHOME>/configuration_backup
<EMS_FILEHOME>/goldenConfigs
<EMS_FILEHOME>/goldenTemplates
<EMS_FILEHOME>/telnetscripts
<EMS_FILEHOME>/software_upgrades
<EMS_FILEHOME>/server.properties
