Activation Key Verification
The activation key is tied to the specific copy of EMS software that had its
serial number entered when obtaining the key. The activation key can be
installed using the
CLI command, or the
command
activate
-activate
line option. The EMS server will verify the activation key, and if successful
the following message displays and the EMS server will start in the
mode as directed by the key :
(I) New activation key has been written to disk successfully.
(I) Device limit = Unlimited
If the activation key verification fails then the following message
displays:
(E) The activation key entered is invalid. Please contact
3Com software vendor and obtain the correct activation key.
Following the failed activation key verification the EMS server will
revert back to evaluation mode. If the 60-day trial period has expired
then the Evaluation expired message will be shown as above in
Evaluation Expired Message
on
page 76
.
EMS Client:
The EMS Client displays the evaluation time left. This is shown as a
Evaluation Mode
horizontal bar in the top right corner on the client GUI as shown in
Visual Indicator

14. The colour of the bar changes from green to yellow and then
to red as the evaluation period approaches its end. Colour will change to
yellow 10 days before the evaluation period is due to expire. It will
change again from yellow to red 5 days before evaluation ends.
