Configuring EMS
Servers with a
Static IP Address

It is important that you run the EMS server on a workstation with a static
IP address. Remote EMS clients might be unable to connect consistently
to an EMS server running on a system configured to use the Dynamic
Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). If you use a system configured for
DHCP, you may get an error indicating that the RMI connection with the
server was terminated. If the DHCP server is configured so IP addresses
never expire, the server will always have the same IP address.
To configure EMS servers with a static IP address:
1 Using a standard text editor, open the server.properties file.
2 In the Management Interface IP config section, edit the
ManagementInterface field according to your customized needs.
For example:
ManagementInterface=10.10.3.1
3 To enable the new configuration, uncomment the ManagementInterface
field.
4 Save and close the server.properties file.
EMS V2.40 defaults to a node limit of 20 devices. EMS will run with this
20 node limit for a time-limited period of 60 days.
The EMS server will function in evaluation mode for 60 days from the
date that the server is first started. After the 60-day evaluation period the
EMS server will stop working. If there are any clients logged in at that
time then a message will be sent to each client, followed by a forced
logout of each client.
Extended Evaluation Mode
After the expiration of the 60-day evaluation period y ou can extend the
evaluation period, or unlock the software so that it operates in
time-unlimited mode by entering a valid activation key. A new
activation key is issued based upon the EMS serial number.
Entering a valid activation key overwrites the previously installed
activation key.
