    1: B HAPTER EFORE EGIN Before Beginning Before you begin the installation process, be sure to complete the Installation following tasks. Verify administration privileges — If you are installing Transcend on Windows NT, you must have administration privileges. Reboot your workstation — Reboot your workstation to provide a clean environment for the installation of Transcend.

    Setup. Starting Setup To run Setup, proceed as follows: 1 Insert the Transcend CD-ROM in your system’s CD-ROM drive. The Setup program starts automatically. 2 When you reach the 3Com User Information window, complete the form then click Next.

For all installations, Setup checks system hardware and displays a warning box if the workstation does not meet minimum hardware requirements.

    Installing Transcend Applications Select either a standard or custom installation by clicking the appropriate radio button. Standard — Installs the most common applications; see Table 7. Custom — Allows you to select which applications to install. You can also choose a different destination directory from this window by clicking Browse.

By default, all applications are selected for installation, which is indicated by check marks. Table 7 summarizes this list. 5 To deselect an application you do not want installed, at the Select Components window, click its check mark to toggle it off.

    2: I HAPTER NSTALLING AND PGRADING PPLICATIONS During installation, dialog boxes inform you of what is occurring on your system and prompts you to confirm that the process should proceed. You must click OK on these dialog boxes to continue with the installation and upgrade processes.

Click Next to use the default directory (\ov). Do not change the default destination directory ([drive]:\ov) when installing or re-installing HP OpenView.

Your next task is to choose whether or not you want a shortcut icon to HP OpenView on your desktop.

    Product Registration Installing 3Com Transcend includes 3Com-specific Management Information Bases (MIBs) Enterprise MIBs for 3Com products. 3Com Enterprise MIBs provide full access to the management capabilities provided by 3Com network devices. The installation program copies MIBs to this location: <transcendhome>\common\ov\mibs\ To use the MIBs, you need to load them into HP OpenView.
