Initially Starting the
EMS Server
Using Windows
Shortcut Options
EMS uses a client-server deployment model. You must start the EMS
server before starting the EMS GUI or CLI clients.
If you are setting up a Server Failover EMS system, you should now refer
to
Chapter 4"Server Failover Configuration" "Setting Up Server Failover"
in this guide.
Run the EMS server in either a terminal window (using either shortcut
options or a command prompt) or as a daemon. For more information on
running the server as a daemon, see
Daemon
on
page
To start the EMS server using shortcut options:
1 From the desktop, double-click the EMS Server icon.

You can also start the EMS server by navigating from a command line to
the location of the FDServer.jar file and entering
A Java-based EMS Server window opens showing the progress of the
EMS server startup sequence.
If this is a new installation, the EMS Server will start in Evaluation
Mode and will support up to 20 devices without an activation key.
If the installation is upgrading from a previous version of EMS it does
not need a new activation key
2 After the server has completed its startup sequence, you can minimize
the EMS Server window.
CAUTION: Do not close the EMS Server GUI using the system close
button. The server must be properly shut down using the "quit"
command to maintain database integrity.
