International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI)

What's this?
• It may happen that you loose the gateway or it is stolen. Very
important personal information is stored and you don't want
somebody to misuse it. To help the user, manufacturer of GSM
Module provides a code known as International Mobile Equipment
Identity (IMEI) which can be sent to the network operator. The
operator will use it to put your GSM module of the specific gateway,
in unoperational state. Thus, the IMEI code is used to identify an
individual GSM Module. When gateway is switched ON, the IMEI
code is transmitted and checked against a database with the
network operator. The IMEI number is normally printed on the GSM
Module (but for some modules, the number is programmed by
Matrix and is pasted on the module).
How it works?
• When the GSM ports are initialized, the request for IMEI is sent on
each GSM port by the Gateway. The GSM port responds with its
IMEI number. This is stored by the Gateway application.
• This number can then be viewed through Jeeves on the Mobile
IMEI page by clicking on the "Display" button.
• If the IMEI number is not obtained during initialization from any
GSM port, then corresponding field in the Jeeves page will remain
blank.
Important Point:
• Sometimes it may happen that module does not send the IMEI
number during power ON. In such case, the user should restart the
system.
