Setting the Pots Companding

This menu item lets you change the companding mode the remote extender uses to encode and decode voice
data it sends and receives from the ISDN network when the analog port is being used.
Note: This option should not normally need to be changed from its default value. Setting this option to the
wrong value for the phone you are using will severely degrade the voice quality in both inbound and out-
bound directions.

STAC Compression
Stac compression is used to compress and uncompress Ethernet data, effectively increasing the data band-
width. The EXTender can be configured to use Stac LZS compression (RFC 1974) on data packets to be sent
across the ISDN link.
If the Stac daughter card is installed the Stac compression menu will be present in the PPP Configuration
menu. If compression is enabled on both sides of the link, Stac Compression can provide up to a 2:1 com-
pression of the original data.
Note: If Stac Compression is disabled in either one of the remote or office Modules, compression will not be
used in either direction on the PPP connection.
Configuring STAC Compression
From the Configure PPP menu:
1.
Select number 1 for Stac Compression. The Configure PPP menu displays the current status (Enabled,
or Disabled).
2.
Press Return. The Stack Compression menu appears. This menu allows you to Enable or Disable the
stack compression.
Select either Enabled or Disabled and press Enter to return to the Configure PPP menu.

Set Silence Detection

This menu item lets you enable or disable silence detection. When Silence Detection is enabled the extender
will monitor the voice channel. If ever a period of silence is detected in the conversation then the extender
will stop sending voice data over the ISDN channel freeing up the channel for other uses such as serial data.
The extender will automatically resume sending voice data once the conversation resumes.
