IPX Spoofing

When a Novell Netware client establishes a connection to a Novell server, but has not sent any data to the
server over a period of time, the server sends an automatic watchdog packet. This watchdog packet deter-
mines if the client is still active.
If the server determines the client is inactive, the NetWare connection will terminate.
Enabling IPX Spoofing allows the Extender system to respond to watchdog packets destined for known sys-
tems on the remote LAN when the ISDN connection is not up.
IPX Spoofing should be enabled when DOD is enabled on the Remote Module and a Netware client is
present on the remote LAN.
IPX Spoofing is disabled by default.
From the Configure Bridging menu:
1.
Select IPX Spoofing.
The following sub-menu will appear:
1. Disabled.
2. Enabled.
2.
Highlight the desired option and press Enter.

IPX Spoofing Timeout

When IPX Spoofing is enabled, the Extender system maintains a list of LAN addresses on the remote LAN
segment (similar to the Local Address list). When the ISDN connection is down and a NetWare watchdog
packet destined for one of those clients is received, the Extender system responds on behalf of that system.
Since the ISDN connection may have been terminated for reasons other than a DOD timeout, such as the
Extender system powering off, or ISDN connection problems, it is desirable for the module to stop respond-
ing to watchdog packets, after the time period specified by this configuration parameter, has expired.
Valid entries are between 1 and 65000 minutes. The default value for IPX Spoofing Timeout is 30 minutes.
From the Bridging Menu:
1.
Select IPX Spoofing Timeout.
2.
Enter the desired IPX Spoofing Time.
3.
Press Enter to accept the value.
