The procedures in this chapter use the web in ter face. The same gen er al
procedures can be adapted to use either of the other methods descr ibed
above.
Self T est
A br ief power on self test occur s automatically whenever you cycle
power to the digitizer. This limited test assur es that the digitizer is
capable of oper ation . If the power- on self test fails, the
on the r ight side of the display tur n s on on ce the digitizer enter s the
Idle st ate. In that case, you may in itiate a mor e complete self test as
descr ibed below.
The complete self- test is an automated procedur e that systematically
exercises the processor, digit al infr astr uctur e, memor y, an d an alog fron t
end subsystems. This procedur e attempts to isolate any failin g conditions
found to a par ticular assembly, to facilitate troubleshootin g an d r epair.
The test t akes approximately 60 seconds to complete. Successful
execution of the self- test provides a high degr ee of con fidence that the
digitizer is oper ating n or mally.
Dur ing the test the digitizer analog inputs ar e disconnected inter nally
from the rear panel BNC con nector s an d ar e con nected to the inter nal
calibr ation source. This source is then used to stimulate the an alog input
chan nels with test sign als. All of the in ter nal sign al paths ar e tested for
proper oper ation. As the differ ent sign al paths ar e configur ed for testin g,
the activation of the r elays used to switch the sign al paths is audible.
After the test procedure completes, the analog inputs are re- conn ected to
the r ear panel BNC conn ectors.
