T roubleshooting
The digitizer is design ed to provide troubleshooting in for mation both
dur in g the boot up sequence and in response to a system in itiated
self- test.
All oper ation s includin g digitizer I/ O begin with the Processor Board an d
associated Car r ier Boar d. The Digital Board controls all the Chan nel
An alog Boards. The L4532A has a single Analog Board and the L4534A
has two An alog Boards. The locations of the major assemblies ar e shown
in the figur e on
In gen er al signal processing flows from the Processor / Car r ier Board, to
the Digital Board, and fin ally to the Analog Boards.
A gen er al procedure to begin troubleshooting a failing digitizer is as
follows:

Discon nect all input cables. Make a r emote in ter face conn ection to the
digitizer (see
page
34). Press the power switch.
If the display does not light, check if the fans ar e r un ning. Check if
the digitizer respon ds to the remote inter face.
If the display does n ot light an d the fan s do not r un or the

digitizer does not respond to r emote comman ds, test the power
supplies as descr ibed beginning on
If the display does n ot light, but the fans ar e r un ning an d digitizer
b
r esponds to r emote comman ds, the display assembly or cable is
likely failing.
Front Panel Display Lockup or Failure: An ESD (electrostatic discharge) event
may cause a temporary failure or lockup of the front-panel display. This has no
effect on data integrity, or on the operation of the digitizer other than the display.
Cycle the power to restore the front-panel display.
If the display lights, obser ve the display dur in g the digitizer boot
sequen ce.
The circuit assemblies ar e checked dur ing the boot sequence and
a
ar e r epor ted in the display with the assembly fir mware r evision.
Failin g or missing assemblies can be r epor ted as 00 (see
If the digitizer does n ot completely boot, a failure of the

If the digitizer completes the boot up sequen ce, any er ror s
encounter ed will be indicated by the er ror an nunciator in the display.
