Input Connections

The L4532A has two input- chan nel ter minals; the L4534A has four (they

Connecting the DUT

Use st an dard BNC cables to con nect your device under test (DUT) to the
digitizer 's input chann els. Such cables have BNC con nector s at each en d,
r equir in g that the DUT have BNC outputs.

The Agilent L4532A/ 34A is designed for IEC Measur emen t Categor y I
(CAT I) measur emen ts only. The input chann els may be conn ected only
to circu itr y that is isolated from AC Mains.
WARN IN G
When any DUT is con nected, it can expose the digitizer's hardware to
excessive volt ages. The channel protection r elays protect the digitizer
from these con ditions, but on ly if the digitizer is On . Using the
On / Stand- by switch to put the un it in Stan d- by mode resets all chan n els
to the 256 V ran ge an d discon n ects the input BNCs from the
measurement hardwar e.

The input r esist ance is 1 MW.
The input capacitan ce is 40 pF.
The allowable input signal is 250 Vpk (from shield to center pin on
the BNC conn ector).
The Tr ansien t over voltage limit is 400 Vpk for each input chann el.
Each chann el may float in depen den tly; its BNC con nector shield may
float 40 Vpk relative to ear th groun d.
The shields of any two channels must be limited to a potential difference of 42
Vpk (maximum, shield-to-shield) to avoid an electric shock hazard.
When connecting the BNC input connectors to the device under test, make sure
that the BNC cables used are rated for the expected input voltages. Up to 250 Vpk
may be measured on each channel, provided the cables are rated for such voltages.
Do not connect the input channels of the L4532A/ 34A to AC line-voltage mains.
This instrument must be used in CAT I (isolated from mains) applications. Do not
use in other IEC Measurement Category (CAT II, CAT III, or CAT IV) applications.
Failure to observe these precautions may result in electric shock and serious
personal injury.
If you remove line power from the digitizer before putting the digitizer in Stand-by
mode, the input channel configuration will remain at the last set range, without
benefit of input channel overvoltage protection. Agilent recommends that you
issue the SYSTem:PRESet [SAFE] command before removing line power.
