lated from AC mains
Installing the Instrument
Before connecting to power, check the
following to ensure it is correct for your
application.
Line Cord
The Agilent L4532A/ 34A power supply
operates in the following line-voltage
ranges:
~Line:
100-240 V, 50-60 Hz
(240 VA Max)
No line-voltage switch is required and the
internal line fuse is appropriate for all volt-
ages within these ranges. This fuse is not
user accessible.
Ensure that the front-panel power switch
is readily accessible during operations.
iv
The instrument is ventilated from the
front, rear, and left side. Do not obstruct
the ventilation holes in any of these loca-
tions.
Before connecting a load or device under
test, read the operating instructions that
begin in chapter 1 of the User's Guide.
Intended Use of the Instrument
The Agilent L4532A (2-channel) or L4534A
(4-channel) 20 MSa/ s, Isolated/ Floating
250V, 16-bit Digitizer is intended to be
used to digitize waveform signals in elec-
tronic-test applications. Each input chan-
nel provides an isolated, floating input
rated for signals of 250 Vpk. The instru-
ment must be connected to the device
under test using cables appropriate to the
application and voltages present.
The L4532A/ 34A is intended only for IEC
Measurement Category I applications, as
defined below.
IEC Measurement Category I
Overvoltage Protection
The L4532A/ 34A has IEC Measurement
Category I (CAT I) overvoltage protection.
IEC Measurement Category I refers to
devices that are isolated from line-voltage
mains. Do not connect the inputs of a CAT
I instrument to AC line-voltage mains.
WARN IN G
Do not connect the input channels of
the L4532A/ 34A to AC line-voltage
mains. This instrument must be used
in CAT I (isolated from mains) appli-
cations. Do not use in other IEC Mea-
surement Category (CAT II, CAT III, or
CAT IV) applications. Failure to
observe these precautions may result
in electric shock and serious per-
sonal injury.
Protection Limits
The Agilent L4532A/ 34A provides protec-
tion circuitry to prevent damage to the
instrument and to protect against the dan-
ger of electrical shock, provided the pro-
tection limits are not exceeded. T o ensure
safe operation of the instrument, do not
exceed the protection limits shown for
each input on the rear panel.
Each input-channel BNC connector (Chan-
nel 1 is shown) has the following protec-
tion limits:
The shield of each input-channel BNC
connector may float 40 Vpk relative to
earth ground. Each channel may float
independently.
The allowable input signal is 250 Vpk
(from shield to center pin on the BNC
connector) for each input channel.
The Transient Overvoltage limit is
400 Vpk for each input channel.
The input impedance for each channel is
1 MW and the input capacitance is 40 pF .
In addition:
The 10 MHz In connector is limited to
3 Vpp.
The T rig In/ Out connector is limited to
+5 V max.
WARNI NG
Do not exceed any of the specified
protection limits to avoid the risk of
electric shock or instrument damage.
