5. USE OF POWER SOURCE FOR MIG-MAG
$
(
see fold-out FIGURE 6 at the end of the manual)
Connect the earth lead and the power cable according to the type of wire
&"
selected
Choose the desired welding procedure using the selector switch on the
'"
front panel:
!"smooth current MIG-MAG process for mixed gases (Argon-CO
CORED WIRE
!"Cupro (for the Optipuls 280 i only)
The synergies of the Cupro position can be used only on sheet steel or
$
galvanized (10
m) sheet steel, thickness 1 to 3 mm, with an
aluminium-bronze wire (Nertalic 46) in argon, in fillet welding position.
!"PULSE process for the gas wire pairs: FE ATAL 5 (82/18), FE ARCAL
(21 or 14), Cr ni (308 or 316) AL mg (3 ; 5 ; 4,5), AL si 5 (A5)
No other application (wire or sheet) can be guaranteed with
these synergies.
Select the welding wire diameter : 0.8 mm to 2.4 mm
(
Select the
or
)"
explanations on cycles, page 14).
Choose synergic or manual mode:
*"
$%
in manual mode, the red potentiometer regulates wire speed, the blue
potentiometer regulates welding voltage.
$%
in synergic mode, the right parameters for the application under consideration
can be found more quickly: in this mode, the middle position for welding
voltage (blue button) will correspond to an optimized setting of arc height with
respect to the chosen wire speed (red button). The latter will then be the only
parameter to need setting.
Make sure that the LOCAL or CAD selector is in LOCAL position, or else
+"
use the remote control potentiometers.
Set wire speed (red button).
,"
Set welding voltage (blue button) or move the potentiometer to middle
-"
position.
When CAD is disconnected and the selector switch 6 is in CAD
position, the welding instructions on the displays show 000. To
return to the settings, move the switch back to LOCAL.
The adjustment can then be fine-tuned around the central position.
Some applications (for example, aluminium wire) may need a broader band of arc
voltage adjustment. In this case, make a note of the settings displayed (wire
speed/welding voltage), change over to manual mode, reset these values and then
adjust arc voltage.
In smooth current MIG MAG welding, set potentiometer 9 on the middle
."
position (for more dynamic melting, turn towards the min. -, for softer
melting, turn towards the max. +).
The upper display-unit then shows the adjustment value :
/"
!"of welding current (pre-display), button 10 in position A
!"of the thickness of the sheet metal to be welded, button 10 in position –
thickness
!"of the wire feed speed in m/mn, button 10 in position m/mn
The bottom display-unit shows the welding voltage.
Note: in order to facilitate adjustment in synergic mode and render it more sensitive,
the arc voltage band, accessible via the blue potentiometer, is optimized as a function
of type of gas, type of wire and wire diameter. The middle position on the
potentiometer is equivalent to the recommended value.

6. WELDING CYCLES SELECTION

$
(
see fold-out FIGURE 7 at the end of the manual)
In MIG-MAG welding, pressing the trigger of the torch has different effects, depending
on the cycle or welding method used. The cycle is selected by means of the buttons
located on the front panel of the power source (
the end of the manual).
