Pulse-counter logic PCFCNT

Identification
Function description
Pulse-counter logic
Application
Pulse-counter logic (PCFCNT) function counts externally generated binary pulses, for
instance pulses coming from an external energy meter, for calculation of energy
consumption values. The pulses are captured by the binary input module (BIM), and read
by the PCFCNT function. The number of pulses in the counter is then reported via the
station bus to the substation automation system or read via the station monitoring system
as a service value. When using IEC 61850–8–1, a scaled service value is available over the
station bus.
The normal use for this function is the counting of energy pulses from external energy
meters. An optional number of inputs from an arbitrary input module in IED can be used
for this purpose with a frequency of up to 40 Hz. The pulse-counter logic PCFCNT can
also be used as a general purpose counter.
Setting guidelines
From PCM600, these parameters can be set individually for each pulse counter:
Operation: Disabled/Enabled
tReporting: 0-3600s
