Although the standard ISO 1996-2:2007 specifies default values used in
the calculation of LDEN, in practice the time values defining the day,
evening and night periods may be changed. This is permitted by
Directive 2002/49/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of
25 June 2002 relating to the assessment and management of
environmental noise. It is important to verify prior to measurement
that the values have been properly defined for your purposes.
The default day/night level LDN is defined by a specific formula, see
"Day-Night Average Sound Level (DNL, Ldn)" on page C-3.
The default day-evening-night level LDEN is defined by a formula, see
"Community Noise Equivalent Level (CNEL, Lden)" on page C-2.
