3.3 Connect the Preamplifier to Meter

Do not attempt to

screw the preamplifier onto
the SoundAdvisor.

3.5 Power the SoundAdvisor

3.5.1 Battery Power

SoundAdvisor Model 831C
The bottom of the preamplifier has a 5 pin connector that fits snugly
into the top of the SoundAdvisor. The connectors are keyed for correct
alignment; There is a vertical engraved line on the preamplifier which
aligns with the arrow on the SoundAdvisor, these should be aligned
before inserting the preamplifier.
Insert the preamplifier into the mating connector on the SoundAdvisor.
Press the assemblies together until a small click is heard.
On the front surface of the SoundAdvisor, just below the preamplifier
connector, is a small button. Press and hold this button while gently
pulling
SoundAdvisor.

To facilitate any task you may have with the meter, you can power the
SoundAdvisor with battery power or use an external power supply.
Do not mix Alkaline and NiMH batteries.
CAUTION
Do not mix batteries from different manufacturers.
CAUTION
Replace all four batteries when installing fresh cells.
CAUTION
The correct battery type must be specified in System Proper-
CAUTION
ties, as described in "Battery Type" on page 9-3.
Do not charge non-rechargeable cells. Charge NiMH only.
