I. Prying is generally the
easiest
and
most
effective
method
o
f removing a seal from a
housing. lIow-
ever, always place a
rag underneath
the
pry
tool
to
prevent
damage
to
the
housing.
2. Pack waterproof grea
se
in the seal
lips before the
seal
is
installed.
3.
In mos
t
case
s,
oi
l
seals should be
installed
su that
the
manufacturer's numbers
or
marks
face out.
4.
Install
seals
with a
driv
er
or socket
placed
on
the
outside
of the seal
as shown
in Figure 44
.
Make
sure the
seal
is
driven
squarely
into
the
housing.
Never
install
a seal
by hitting again st the top
of
the
seal
with
a
hammer.
STO
RAGE
Severa
l
months
of
inactivity
can
cause
serious
problems
and genera l
deterioration of the
vehicle.
Th
is is
especially importa nt in areas
with
cold win-
ters.
For
winter
storage. prepare
the vehicle
care-
fully.
Selecting a
Storage
Area
Most
ATV
riders
store the
ir
vehicl es
in
their
home
garage.
If a
garage
is
not
available, there
are
other faci
lities
for
rent
or lease in
most areas. When
selecting an
area,
consider
the following
points.
I. Th
e
storage
area must be
dry;
there
sho uld
be no
dampness
or excessive
humidity.
A
heated
area
is
notnecessary,but
it
should be
insulated to minimize
extreme temperature
variations.

buildings with
large w
indow
areas,
If
this
is
not
possib
le. musk
the
windowto
keep
direct
sun-
light
off
the vehicle.

Avoid bu
ilding

in industrial
area

ries

liable

emit
corrosive

Also avoid

salt
water.
4. Select
an
area where there
is
minimum risk
of
fire, theft or
vandalism
.

agent to make sure that the
insurance policy
covers
the vehicle in sto rage.
Prepari ng Vehicle
for Storage
Careful preparation
wi

deterioration
and make it easier to
restore
the
vehicle
to service.

Wash
the
vehicle thoroughl
y.
Make certain all
the
dirt and mud is
thoroughly
remo ved .

the plastic parts

tire dressing to

follow the

the plastic
preservative.

Run the
engine
unti

it
reaches
opera
ting
temper-
ature.
Drain
the
engine
oi
l and
transmission
oi
l
re-
gardless
of
the
riding
time since
the
last
c
hange.
Fill
the
eng ine and
transm ission
with
the
recommended
type
and
quantity
of
fre sh
oil.
3.
Drain all
the
gasoline
from the fuel tank
,
fuel
line
and
carburetor.
Run the
engine
at
idle
speed un-
til all
of
the fuel
is used
up.
4.
Remove
the spark plug
and add
a
small
quantity
of
engine
oi
l
into the cy
linder.
Place
a
rag over
the
cylinder
head
openings and slowly
roll
the
engi
ne
o
ver
a few
times to
distribute the
oil
,
then
reinstall
the
spark
plug.
5.
Check
the
tire
pressures.
reduce
the norm
al
in-
flation pressure by
20%.
and move the
machin e to
the
storage
area.
