a. Make sure that the flywheel T OC timing
mark is aligned wit h the ce nter of the tim ing
port (Figure 57).
b. If neces sary, turn the: engine with the recoil
starter w hile guiding the tim ing cha in as re-
quired .
4 B. If the a ltem ator stator plate is removed , rotate
the cra nkshaft until the ma rk (A, Fi gure 58) on the
cra nksha ft sprocket is facing down an d is a lig ned
w ith the crankcase projec tion (B, Figu re 58 ).
5. Rem ove the w ire from the camsh aft c hain and
loop it ov er the end o r the camsha ft (Figu re 59) .
6. Positi o n the camshaft driven sprocket w ith the
two dots (Figu re 60) facing away from the engine
and at the 12 o 'clock position.
7. Prop erly mesh the d riven sprocket wit h the cam -
sha ft cha in as follo ws:
a. Pull up on the ca mshaft cha in and make sure
it is properly meshed w ith the cranksha ft
dri ve sprocket.
b. A lign the driven sprocket two dots (A, Figure
61) w ith the two plat ed links (B, Fig ure 61)
on the ca ms ha ft chain and mesh the chain
w ith the driven sprocke t. After mesh ing the
ch ain , rech eck for correc t alignment o r the
two parts. Repo sit ion the sprocke t
if
neces-
sary until alignment is co rrec t,

8. Insta ll the d riven sp rocket o nto the
camshaft
and
position it correct ly w ith the dowel pin . II' ncces-
sary, slightly rotate the ca msha ft in either d irection
and align the mounting bolt holes. Temporarily in-
