3. Remove the front strut as
described
in this chap-
ter.
4 . Remove the front d rive ax le as described in
C ha pter Ten .
5. A lterna ting fro m side to side, loosen the bol ts
(F ig u re 35) sec ur ing the control ann to the frame
mo unt ing bra c kets. Hold onto the control arm and
remove both bolts and wa shers (A , F igu re 36) .
6. Hol d onto bot h ends ofthe control arm assem bly
(B, Figu re 36 ) and remove it fro m the fram e.
12. Install the rub ber boot and press it on unt il it is
correctly seated.

2. Remo ve the fro nt whee l as described in th is
chapter.

I. Remove the lon g bushi ng and flat bu sh ing from
eac h end of the co ntro l arm,
2. Withdraw the shaft from the co ntro l arm.
3. Clea n

in solvent and dry them with co m-
pressed air.
4 . Inspect the co ntro l arm for crac ks, fracture s and
dents. I

Inspect each bu shing
for severe wear or
da mage. _
Rep lace rusted or oth erwise da maged parts.

6. Inspect the mo un ting bolts for bend ing or other
dama ge. Replace dama ged bo lts.
7.
Inspect the mo unting brack et on the frame for
damage.
If repair is
required. co nsult a compe tent
we lder who is fa miliar w ith this type of repair.
8. Apply a heavy co at of g rease to the shaft and in-
sert it
into the
control
ar m, Wipe off

grease

9. Install the flat and long bush ing into each end of
the co ntrol ann.
Installation
I. Hol d on to both ends oft he co ntro l a111' assemb ly
and posit ion it into the fra me betwe en the mounting
brackets.
2. Hold the asse mbly in place (R, Figu re 36) and in-
stall the bolt and wa sher onto each end (A, Fig u re 36) .
