Rear
hub
I.
Clean
the rear hub
and
the
end
of
the
rear
axle
with
so
lvent
and
dry thoroughly.

Inspect
the
rear hub (A

for cracks
or
othe r
damage. If
damage is
severe, replace
the
hub
.
3.
Inspect
the hub
splines
(Figu
re
19)
and
the rear
@
axle splines
(A,
Figure
20)
for
wea
r or
damage.
Slide the
rear
hub onto
the
rear
axle
and
try to
rotate
it.
It
should
be a
tight
fit with no
rotat
ional
move-
ment.
If
damage
is minor.
clean
it
up
with
a
file.
If
damage
is
severe,
replace
the
dam aged
part(s).

the lug
nut

dam-
age

Repluce
the
stud(s) i

necessary.

damaged,
inspect
the lug nuts
for
damage
and
re-
place
as necessary.

bearing

the
inner
race
of the bearing

by
hand
. Make
sure
the bearing turn

smoothly
witho ut excess ive
play or
noise.
Replace the
bear-
ing
if
damaged,
replace
it
as
described
in
this chap-
ter.

Make
sure
the circlip
(8, Fig
ure
22)
sec
uring
the
bearing
is
secure in
the
carrier
groove.
