5. Remov e the shock absorber (13, Figure 4) from
the frame.
6. Install by rever sing these ste ps whi le noting the
following:
a. C lean the shoc k mou nting bolts wit h solvent
and dry thoro ughly.
b. Insta ll
new
nuts. Tighten the mounting bolts
and nuts to the torque specification listed in
Ta ble 2.

1. Inspect the damper unit (A, Figure 5) for oil
leakage and make sure the damp er rod (8 , Figure 5)
is straight. Also inspect the rod for rust or other
dama ge.
2. Inspect the upper (Figu re 6) and lower (A, Fig-
ure 7) rubber pivot bush ings fo r wear or deteriora-
tion . l fdamaged, replace the shock absorb er.
3. If nece ssary, remove a nd insp ect the spring as
described in the following procedure.

I. Remove the shock absorber as described in this
chapter.
2. Measure and record the spring preload position
before removing the spring.
3. Rotate the spr ing preload adju ster (8, Figu re 7)
to the sa nes t setting,
4. Install the shock absorber into a shoc k absorber
spring com presso r fo llowing the manu facturer 's in-
struct ions.
