3. Definition of a failed boot
The two types of boot process failure are as follows:
- Failure that allows processing to go to the next boot option
- Failure that does not allow processing to go to the next boot option

If the boot target is not found, the boot process fails. The failure allows processing to go to the next boot option.
Specifically, this failure has the following patterns.
- The boot process for a UEFI-aware OS (e.g., Windows Boot Manager) finds that the target device is
disconnected from the system.
- The boot process for a UEFI-aware OS (e.g., Windows Boot Manager) finds that the target device could not
be recognized.
- The boot process for a UEFI-aware OS (e.g., Windows Boot Manager) finds that the target device has no
UEFI partition.
- The DVD/CD device has no inserted media during boot with [UEFI: Embedded DVD/CD] or [UEFI: DVD/
CD n].
- The DVD/CD device has no bootable media inserted during boot with [UEFI: Embedded DVD/CD] or [UEFI:
DVD/CD n].
- The HDD is disconnected from the system during boot with [Legacy Boot] from the HDD.
- The HDD cannot be recognized during boot with [Legacy Boot] from the HDD.
