Installing the Md4/PCI Board in a Digital UNIX Workstation
To install multiple boards
To install multiple boards, repeat the process described
in "Installing the Board in a Digital UNIX Workstation" on
page 122.
Tips
Remember these tips when you are installing multiple
boards:
• You can install as many Md4/PCI boards as your sys-
tem's power supply and available PCI slots support.
• Each board requires less than 3 amps of +5V.
• When you install multiple boards, you must disable
VGA mode on the additional boards; see "To disable
VGA mode" on page 128.

Supporting VGA with the Md4/PCI board

The 32-bit slots on the Digital UNIX workstation do not
support the Md4/PCI board's VGA, so you must install the
Md4/PCI board in a 64-bit slot if you are using it to sup-
port VGA. Unfortunately, the 64-bit slots on the 500au
workstation (and possibly on other Digital UNIX worksta-
tions) are not fully PCI compliant. Before you can use the
Md4/PCI board in a 64-bit slot, you must first use a Digital
display board to set the 64-bit slots to accept non-Digital
PCI boards.
To set the 64-bit slot to accept a DOME PCI board
1. Install the Digital display board in one of the 64-bit
slots.
2. Turn on the workstation.
The boot prompt appears on the VGA console.
