Supporting VGA with the Md4/PCX board

The 32-bit slots on the Digital UNIX workstation do not
support the Md4/PCX board's VGA, so you must install
the Md4/PCX board in a 64-bit slot if you plan to use it as
the VGA console.
Unfortunately, the 64-bit slots on the 500au workstation
(and possibly on other Digital UNIX workstations) are not
fully PCI compliant. To use the Md4/PCX board in a 64-bit
slot, you must first use a Digital display board to set the
64-bit slots to accept DOME PCX boards.
To set the 64-bit slot to accept a DOME PCX board
1. Install the Digital display board in one of the 64-bit
slots.
2. Turn on the workstation.
The boot prompt appears on the VGA console.
3. Type this command at the boot prompt:
>>>set pci_device_override 493d105d
This command allows the DOME display board to be
recognized in a 64-bit slot.
4. Turn off the power to your workstation.
5. Remove the Digital board from the 64-bit slot.
6. Enable VGA mode on the Md4/PCX board; follow the
instructions in "To enable VGA mode" on page 123.
