close the fi tting tightly. Failure to secure the fuel fi tting
tightly may allow water to enter the fuel tank and eventually
the engine fuel system. Periodically lubricate the fuel fi tting
O-ring by coating with clean diesel fuel. This will help keep
the O-ring pliable and retain its sealing properties.
The fuel vent serves as a pressure relief for the diesel tank
and is a safety overfl ow device. The vent is found below
the fuel fi ll fi tting at the starboard hull side. It has a screen
inside which needs to be periodically cleaned. Insects can
cause the vent to clog resulting in increased pressure in
the fuel system especially noticeable when fi lling the fuel
tank. In extreme clogging cases the fuel will emerge from
the fi ll because the vent is not able to relieve the air in the
fuel tank that is being replaced with diesel fuel.
