Diesel Generator-Bleeding A Typical Fuel System
Periodically, the fuel system needs "bleeding" to prevent
starting failures and rough or erratic operation. This can
be caused from the generator running out of fuel, air leaks
between the fuel tank and the engine fuel pump, and from
replacing the fuel fi lter.
To bleed a typical system follow these steps:
Note: Have a cloth handy during the bleeding procedure.
Wipe up all spilled diesel fuel after bleeding the system.
Wash hands after any contact with fuel oil.
1. Loosen the fuel fi lter screw at position 1 (See illustration
above).
2. Initiate the auto/start sequence until the fuel appears
free of air bubbles as viewed from the vent screw at
position 2. Tighten the screw.
3. Loosen the fuel fi lter screw at positon 2.
