Basic Principles

The cut–sheet output unit leads cut–sheet paper ejected from the main unit to the top
cover's face–down output paper tray.
This unit has 3 types of transporting rollers, the entrance, intermediate, and output
rollers, that are driven by the main unit feed motor. (Refer to "Main Unit Feed Roller
Drive," in Chapter 5, "Principles of Operation," page 5–31.) In between these are two
guides, the output paper intermediate guide and the output paper exit guide.
This unit also has 2 guides, output paper sensor 2 (EPS2) and cut–sheet transport
path open sensor (CWO).
The output sensor 2 is a photo–interrupter for the purpose of detecting whether paper
exists. The data collected here is used for detecting paper jamming.
The cut–sheet open detector sensor is a micro–switch to check whether the paper
output intermediate guide is closed. Transport path open is detected when the output
paper intermediate guide support frame lever is lowered, thereby opening the output
paper intermediate guide and opening the contact point.
