Installing or Replacing a PCI Riser Card
Caution: The PCI riser card is NOT hot-swappable. Before removing or replacing the PCI riser
card, you must first take the server out of service, turn off all peripheral devices connected
to the system, turn off the system by pressing the power button, and unplug the AC power
cord from the system or wall outlet.
The PCI riser card has two available slots:

One PCI Express* x8 slot to accommodate a low profile PCI Express* card. The
card must be installed on the right side of the bracket.
•
One PCI-X* slot to accommodate a full-height/mid-length PCI-X* card. The card
must be installed on the left side of the bracket.
Installing a PCI Riser Card
1. Observe the safety and ESD precautions at the beginning of this book. See
Information" on page
2. Power down the server and unplug all peripheral devices and the AC power cable.
3. Remove the server system cover. For instructions, see
System
4. Disconnect any cables attached to any add-in cards.
5. Remove the PCI riser assembly. For instructions, see
Assembly" on page
6. Use two screws to attach the PCI riser card to the PCI riser assembly. See the
following figure.
7. Install PCI add-in card(s) if desired. For instructions, see
Card" on page
8. Install the PCI riser assembly into the server system. For instructions, see
"Installing the PCI Riser Assembly" on page
