PRE-LOAD FILAMENT TO THE DRIVE WHEELS
Pre-loading filament to the drive wheels places a canister's filament into position to be loaded to the liquefier tips
within the head. To pre-load filament to the drive wheels:
1. Open the thumbwheel door (item 3 in
2. Remove the square foam gasket on the inside of the thumbwheel door (7A).
3. Stick the gasket onto the canister, placing it into its storage position (7B).
The square foam gasket prevents the thumbwheel from moving.

• The gasket must only be removed when the canister is installed in the system.
• Reuse the gasket if the canister is to be stored.
4. Feed the filament into the filament drive mechanism by pressing in and down on the thumbwheel
(Figure 4-4).
5. Turn the thumbwheel until you feel the filament drive motor pull the filament and the canister LED
begins to flash green.
Filament needs to be advanced approximately 2 inches (50.8 mm) to reach the drive motor drive

wheels.
6. The system automatically completes the process of preloading filament.
• The drive motor advances the filament until it contacts the filament present switch. Once filament is
detected, the drive motor stops and the canister LED begins to flash green.
Caution: Make sure that the thumbwheel door is closed after filament preload is
accomplished.
7. Close the thumbwheel door.
Filament is now in position to be loaded to the liquefier tips in the head. (see
Tips" on page 4-44).
