Note:
• If a logical library label (
from the old drive an attach it to the new drive.
• The drive safety flaps must not be removed when installing the drive. The safety
flaps will pivot up, out of the path when the drive is installed.
• If you are copying drive microcode either to or from a control path drive, the
control path function from the source or destination drive may be unavailable to
the library until the microcode update is complete. This is not an issue if Control
Path Failover is enabled.
Drive Serial Number Preservation
When a 3592 drive canister is replaced, the FRU will come with a RID tag. You must
write the serial number of the original drive on the RID tag and place it over the serial
number label on the back of the FRU canister. It is also important that you use the
procedures in Begins Replacement and Finishes Replacement on the Operator Panel
to ensure that the library will write the serial number of the original drive into VPD in
the replacement drive.
The replacement procedure is the reverse of the removal procedure.
1. Carefully slide the drive canister into the fixed tray assembly.
2. Hold the locking lever (
lever will clear the frame.
3. Grasp the drive canister handle (
the drive into position. Ensure that the connectors to the right correctly align and
fully engage with the drive docking card.
4. Lower the locking lever (
5. See "Tape Drive LEDs" on page 7-18 for canister LED displays.
6. After installing a replacement drive canister, wait at least 3 minutes before
continuing. This will ensure that the library has time to automatically configure
and calibrate the drive.
7. From the Operator Panel, select Finishes Replacement, and press Enter.
Note: Follow the instructions on the Operator Panel to run the library
diagnostics tests. See "Running Library Verify Diagnostics" on page 7-5.
8. Select the Revision command on the Operator Panel, and press Enter. View the
drive microcode version for all drives in the library.
9. If the microcode in the drive is the same as in the drive you replaced, continue to
the next step. If the drive microcode level is below the revision level on the drive
you replaced, update the drive microcode. See "Methods of Updating Firmware"
on page 7-20.
10. Give the library at least three minutes to reset the configuration of the
replacement drive before you attach the Fibre Channel host interface cable.
Note: If the drive is connected to an ~ iSeries (AS/400) host, then you may
have to IPL the host IOP before it will recognize the replacement drive.
11. From the Operator Panel, run the Library Verify test in the Service Mode menu.
See "Running Library Verify Diagnostics" on page 7-5. Library Verify is the most
critical and most frequently used test, and should be executed after all
maintenance procedures to ensure correct library performance.
12. If requested, take the library online. See "Taking the Library Offline/Online" on
page 7-23.
