Updating Microcode from iSeries (OS/400)
On a AS/400 system, the Update Device Microcode (QTAUPDDV) API provides an
interface for updating device microcode from a code image stored in an Integrated
File System (IFS) stream file. The QTAUPDDV API can be used for a tape drive within
the library only when the device is deallocated from the library.
To update drive firmware:
1. Download the latest drive firmware to your host computer by visiting
http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/storage/support/index.html.
2. Deallocate the drive from the library by entering the following at the OS/400
MAIN MENU:
WKRCFGSTS *DEV *TAP
3. Then, enter the following:
CALL QTAUPDDV (TAPYY '/DIR/XXXXLYT.ro')
where:
/DIR/ indicates the directory where the firmware image resides.
YY indicates the TAP device number.
XXXX indicates the firmware imager version.
Y indicates the drive generation.
T indicates the connection type (F for fibre channel).
X System gives status for about 4 minutes. During the code load, the tape drive
LEDs will flash. Once download is completed, the tape drive will reboot. AS/400
returns after it has set a reserve to the tape drive.
4. Confirm code loading from the Operator Panel.
