Serial number The machine type and serial number of the library are on the front bezel of the library. A standard 19-inch rack system contains multiple mounting locations that are called EIA units as deﬁned by the Electronics Industries Association. 1. Install the application software and drivers that are compatible with the library. Backup software packages might require extra software or licensing to communicate with the robotics. 2. Verify the connection between the library and the host by using the host server’s operating system utilities. Page 54: Troubleshooting
The head of the tape drive in the tape library must be kept clean to prevent errors that are caused by contamination. To help you keep the drive clean, IBM provides a cleaning cartridge with the library. The library uses the cleaning cartridge to clean the drive with whatever cleaning method that you choose. In all methods, cleaning is done after the data cartridge is unloaded from the drive and before the next load.

The type of event that generates email notiﬁcation or SNMP trap notiﬁcation can be selected to limit the number of events to a speciﬁc priority level. Customers can frequently resolve a simple problem themselves by with the information found in Troubleshooting guide. If the problem is unrecoverable, the customer must contact IBM® Technical Support, see Contacting IBM technical support. Page 78: Replacing The Library
The entire library, including the drive, is a Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU). At CRU replacement, the serial number of the new library must be changed to the serial number of the old library to maintain IBM® entitlement to service. If the static IP address of the new library matches the static IP address that is saved in the cookie, the Web User Interface checks the serial number of the new library against the serial number that is saved in the cookie.

Make a copy of this form, and ﬁll it out as you are installing and conﬁguring your library. Update the form each time changes are made to the library conﬁguration. The information that is contained on this form is important, and helpful if a call to IBM® service is necessary.

To ensure that your IBM Ultrium Tape Drive conforms to IBM's speciﬁcations for reliability, use only IBM LTO Ultrium tape cartridges. You might use other LTO-certiﬁed data cartridges, but they might not meet the standards of reliability that are established by IBM. The IBM LTO Ultrium Data Cartridge cannot be interchanged with the media used in other IBM non-LTO Ultrium tape products.
