    Introduction The IBM TS2280 Tape Drive is a high-performance, high-capacity data-storage device that is designed to back up and restore open systems applications. It is the eighth generation in the Ultrium series of products. It is available with a Serial Attached SCSI interface (SAS). This model incorporates the Linear Tape-Open (LTO) IBM Ultrium 8 Half Height Tape Drive.

    Cartridge compatibility The TS2280 uses the IBM LTO Ultrium 12000 GB data cartridge and is compatible with the cartridges of its predecessor, the IBM Ultrium Tape Drive Generation 7.     The best storage container for the cartridges (until they are opened) is the original shipping container. The plastic wrapping prevents dirt from accumulating on the cartridges and partially protects them from humidity changes. When you ship a cartridge, place it in its jewel case or in a sealed, moisture-proof bag to protect it from moisture, contaminants, and physical damage.
