Null, Offset Cancel

Null, Offset Cancel

The Null (offset cancel) function displays the measurement result based on setting
the measured value under specific condition as reference. The value measured on
pressing the Null key is stored as offset value, and then the value that subtracts
the offset value from the actual measurement value is displayed as the
measurement value. If this function is enabled, the NULL indicator turns on. If the
NULL indicator turns off, the actual measurement value is displayed.
If the measurement mode is changed when the NULL indicator turns on, the NULL
indicator turns off, even though the null function remains enabled. This state will
be kept until the null function for the primary measurement mode is enabled.
The following sections show the usage examples of this function:
Current Measurement (B2981B/B2983B/B2985B/B2987B)
and Charge Measurement (B2985B/B2987B)
1. Prepare the reference connection for measurement.
2. Turn the Ammeter On.
3. Press the Run/Stop key to perform repeat measurement.
4. Confirm that the measurement value is stable, and then press the Null key.
To disable this function, press the Null key during Ammeter On, then the NULL
indicator turns off.

This function is used to reject the offset created from the measurement
environment. So, connect the measurement cables to the instrument, and then
make the measurement terminals open immediately close to the device under
test (DUT).
Or, you can use this function by using the state where DUT is connected as
reference state.
If the measured value is not stable, adjust the measurement speed (aperture
time) and the measurement filter setting.
The NULL indicator turns on, and the null function is enabled.
