APPENDIX D Setting up the System for a Magnetometer
D.2.3 Method 3
1. Connect the magnetometer PC to COM4 on the TPU using a straight (non null
modem) RS-232 cable.
2. Configure your terminal or software for 9600-8-N-1, and set flow control to none.
3. Power up the sonar system and wait for the system to boot. Once the towfish is
active, start SonarPro and start the sonar. Magnetometer data will be transmitted
out of COM4.
4. Connect a PC with a null modem cable to COM2 on the TPU.
5. Configure your terminal or software for the same baud rate that the startup.ini file
is set for (in most cases it will be set to 4800-8-N-1), and set flow control to none.
6. To send commands down to the magnetometer, open the Sonar Interface dialog
box in SonarPro, select the Towfish Diagnostic tab, and enter the command in the
Operator command
The following format is uppercase:
$PKLA,FC$Axxxx where xxxx is the magnetometer command.
Example: $PKLA,FC$AF00.
D.2.4 Echoing Commands Out of COM3
To echo the sent commands out of COM3:
1. Set the computer terminal program to 1200 baud.
2. Use a a null modem cable.
3. Change the following line in the startup.ini file to read:
set TOWFISHECHO 1.
