D.2 Connecting the Magnetometer for Data Transfer
There are several ways to connect to the magnetometer for data transfer.
D.2.1 Method 1
1. Connect the magnetometer PC to COM4 on the TPU using a straight (non null
modem) RS-232 cable.
2. If using HyperTerminal, make sure it is in the connect state.
3. Configure your terminal or software for 9600-8-N-1, and set none for flow
control.
4. Power up the sonar system and wait for the system to boot. Once the towfish is
active, start SonarPro and start the sonar. Magnetometer data will be transmitted
out of COM4.
5. To send commands down to the magnetometer, open the Sonar Interface dialog
box in SonarPro, select the Towfish Diagnostic tab, and enter the command in the
Operator command
The following format is uppercase:
$PKLA,FC$Axxxx, where xxxx is the magnetometer command.
Example: $PKLA,FC$AF00
6. Click Send Command to send the command to the towfish.
D.2.2 Method 2
1. Connect a PC with a null modem cable to COM3 on the TPU.
2. Configure your terminal or software for 9600-8-N-1 and set none for flow
control.
3. Power up the sonar system and wait for the system to boot. Once the towfish is
active, start SonarPro or open the terminal program or magnetometer software.
Communication with the magnetometer should be established. If you are using
SonarPro and want to send a command to the magnetometer, it is advised that you
stop the sonar while the commands are sent down to the magnetometer.

Connecting the Magnetometer for Data Transfer

NOTE When calibrating the compass, the default uplink has to be set to 0.
NOTE The startup.ini is a text file and may be edited in any word
processing program such as Wordpad.
